Large Bamana Tribal ChiWara Antelope Sculpture and Male ChiWara.

Chiwaras, the antelope to the Bamana people of Mali, represent the mythical being that taught agriculture to humans and is honored through art and dance. According to their legend, the Chiwara used his antlers to cultivate the soil and his hoofs to cover the seeds.

These headdresses were created and used to honor the spirit of the Chiwaras.  This impressive piece stands 29 inches tall and 8.25 inches wide, from front to back.  Width is 3 inches. This piece of hand-carved wood displays intricate carved details on both sides of the faces and around the antlers.

It is in good condition shows signs of wear, appears to have a piece missing. Without knowing for sure, I can not say what.

Weighs 16oz
